Bremerton, WA

  • 20 bed, multi-specialty ICU with 24/7 Intensivist coverage
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Critical Care Medicine or Pulmonary Critical Care
  • Admissions: 0-6, nights 2-4. Open ICU but functions more like closed ICU. ED Physicians respond to all Code Blue
  • Proficient at usual critical care skills (e.g. intubation, central venous access, arterial line placement, emergent chest tube placement, bronchoscopy in an intubated patient)
  • Physician shift times: In house night shift 7pm – 7am. Generally Mon through Sunday with some partial weeks available
  • This is an exclusively inpatient position

  • must have active WA license
  • Admissions variable with range of 0-6; typical night would be 2-4. Although it is an “open” ICU it really functions much more like a “closed” ICU. If a patient on the hospitalist service decompensates and requires transfer to the ICU the critical care service assumes primary care and the hospitalist withdraw until the patient transfers back out of the ICU. The majority of patients admitted from the ED are admitted to the critical care service. Exceptions would be a trauma patient (rare as we are not a high level trauma center) admitted by general surgery though the critical care physician would consult and, from a practical standpoint provide most of the care.  A stable, non-intubated patient with an MI and stent placement will generally be cared for by cardiology; if they are unstable or intubated critical care will be engaged.
