Leadership Spotlight: Bonnie Britton

When a Staff Care employee hears the name “Bonnie Britton” a smile will indubitably come to their face. As the Senior Vice President of Sales at Staff Care, Bonnie’s passion and determination to achieve goals every day makes her a role model for each member of her team.

With an incredible team of individuals at her side, Bonnie wakes up daily excited to go to work and do what she loves. Throughout her seven-year career at AMN Healthcare, Staff Care's parent company, Bonnie has tackled every project thrown her way to the best of her ability and has achieved immense success, which has led her to be the outstanding leader that she is today. She has played a tremendous role in Staff Care’s achievements and will no doubt continue to do so for years to come.

When she's not working at the office, Bonnie loves to spend time with her two best friends — her daughter Erica and son Brandon — and her husband at their home in Grapevine, Texas.

Why did you decide to go into the healthcare industry?

I began my career in print marketing and advertising, but as that vertical began its decline, and increased access to online content became widely accepted, I started following the healthcare industry. I had many peers that had experienced great success in the space, so it was appealing to me. I researched many healthcare careers, but ultimately landed in staffing with one of our smaller competitors. While I enjoyed my time there, I knew I wanted to work for AMN, originally because my clients would sing AMN’s praises for their customer service and ability to provide clinicians. They were the clear preferred provider at many of my clients. I also listened to competitors earnings calls, and heard the strong command of the industry and business that was unparalleled at AMN.

I've been with AMN for seven years, and had the benefit of working with several teams. I began my journey with our travel nurse division as a regional director before moving to a leadership role as Regional Vice President within the same division. Two years later, I was afforded the opportunity to work with our locums division, Staff Care, and have been in my current role for two and a half years, and it is amazing! The team that we have here is fabulous and I’m so proud to work with them. Everyone is so well-educated on the market and trends and it’s just a really great place to work.

What about locums specifically do you enjoy?

Placing physicians and advanced practice providers is a very strategic and integral offering for our healthcare clients. The service we provide, helps hospitals both maintain revenue streams or increase their ability to capture revenue and market share. Which is becoming more and more important with ACA and the growth of ACOs.

What makes you great at your job?

My passion and my team. I love what I do and I love the company that I work for, so I’m highly motivated. When I get up every morning I’m ready to tackle the next three things that will get us closer to our goals. I love the organization here and all of the leaders that I've engaged with over the years have just been incredible role models and help drive some of the passion that I have. I also want to be the best at whatever role or job that I have. I don’t think it matters if you sweep the streets, are a waiter, teacher or leading a company, you should do the best you can every day. My work is not my career, my work is the product of what I do every day and what I do that gets us closer to our goals. If I can do the best that I can do every time, I think the passion just follows.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love projects. Almost every weekend I’m working on a project, whether it be re-finishing furniture, painting, working in the yard or working on our house remodel. I also have my friends by my side every weekend. We love entertaining and I’m not scared to put my friends to work on my projects! Time away from work is my time to take a step back from the demanding schedules that we all place on ourselves to increase our productivity and results and it’s therapeutic for me to work on projects.

Who is your role model?

My mother was the strongest role model that I've had in my life. She was a single mom for years and had her own business and now has four businesses. She is a driven lady, super smart, personable, is able to multi-task better than anyone I know and her faith in God is inspiring to me. My father as well is incredible, and I’m lucky to have them both!

What’s your favorite funny work-related memory?

There’s so many! It’s hard for me to think about one. I remember when I was in year one or two with the organization, I was lost in the middle of East Texas (this was prior to iPhones) and I was on a trip seeing 15 clients in three days and traveling probably 600 miles and I took a wrong turn and got lost. I had to call my account manager Teresa Glover — who was in San Diego, not Texas — and asked her to help navigate me to the nearest hospital. I would also be fibbing if I said that didn’t happen on multiple occasions! Teresa helped me ALL the time!

If you could have any job in the world, other than your current one, what would it be?

I think I would be an entrepreneur. I get to do a little of that with the roles that I’ve had because I feel like I treat my roles as if they were my own business, but if I wasn't working for AMN I’d have my own business. Maybe an accessory shop with painted furniture, maybe a cute little wine shop or maybe those two put together! That would be awesome.
