What's your back story?

I grew up in Portland, Oregon and I went to college at Arizona State University, majoring in finance and German. Out of college I went to work for Andersen Consulting, spending most of my career overseas consulting in the financial services segment in business process, re-engineering and distributive technologies.

After leaving Andersen in the late '90s, I started a company called Forward Thinking Inc., a systems integrator business consultancy aligned with IBM, Lotus and their business integration platforms. In 1999 we were acquired by REAL Solutions, where I then ran REAL Solutions E-business Services out of Chicago, growing organically and through mergers and acquisitions. In 2001, I entered the workforce solutions industry and held a variety of executive positions leading to my joining AMN as Staff Care president in 2012.

Why did you decide to join the healthcare industry?

I came to work in the healthcare industry predominately because of AMN. I really liked the culture and the people. I’m kind of hardwired to win, and I want to win for people I like, respect and look up to because it makes winning more fun. This was a business that I thought I could help in addition to working with people that I had a lot of respect for.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of work? Do you have any hobbies?

I have three kids and being a full-time dad consumes most of my free time. My hobbies are history, science and learning as much as I can about just about everything. Mountain climbing has also been my lifelong passion.

If you could have any job in the world, other than your current one, what would it be?

I would be the Secretary of State. I love cultures, politics and world events, so to be right smack in the middle of all to influence leaders and world events would be really stimulating. There are many intelligent people from a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds that contribute to the world body of knowledge. Relating to current events and being among that community would be fascinating.
