Staff Care Recruiter Spotlight: Patrick Fort

Recruiter Spotlight: Patrick Fort

Working as the senior recruiting manager for the radiology team at Staff Care, Patrick Fort comes in to the office each day eager to work with physicians and perform his best. As a Staff Care team member with more than 11 years under his belt, Patrick has grown to develop a unique level of expertise in this industry, which has contributed to his many successes, such as earning top recruiter recognition.

As a charter member of Staff Care's radiology team, Patrick has had the opportunity to work first-hand to develop this division into what it has become today. Patrick has also been able to work in a variety of positions within the AMN brand, providing him with an exceptional understanding of the company and its operations as a whole. He not only finds enjoyment in his work with his team members, who have become close friends, but also the physicians who he has worked closely with over the years and have become like family.

When Patrick isn't in the office working with America's locum tenens physicians, you can find him out on the water, or spending time with his wife and two children, Avery and Eason, at their home in Shady Shores, Texas.

What’s your story, Patrick? Where are you from?

I grew up in Rockwall, Texas, and lived there up until I attended Richland College playing soccer for a year before ending up at University of North Texas. I graduated from UNT with a degree in RTVF (radio, television, video and film). Shortly before graduating, I went to a job fair for pharmaceutical sales and I ran into our company there and ended up interviewing with MHA. After getting hired by MHA in 2002, my job was to help start a new company called “New Physician” which was developed as a new recruitment wing targeted towards physicians in residency and fellowship. Unfortunately, plans for that program didn’t pan out and I ended up working on the research team with Mike Fay. After doing that for 18 months, I transferred to Staff Care in January, 2004. I have been with the radiology team ever since!

What do you like to do for fun outside of work? Do you have any hobbies?

I’m very big into boating – I love wakeboarding, wake surfing and, and love taking the boat out with my family. I’m also pretty big into playing disc golf and actually play competitively in tournaments. I enjoy disc golf because it allows you to get out of the house for a few hours and I enjoy the outdoors. Disc golf courses are normally located in public parks, so I can take my children out with me as well.

What attracted you to working in the healthcare industry?

My initial attraction out of school was working in sales, particularly pharmaceutical or device sales, I had a couple of friends that I knew in that area and it was a hot market coming out of school. Although I wasn’t initially familiar with physician staffing, after discovering this company and becoming an employee, I developed a passion for this industry and decided to stick with it.

What do you enjoy most about your job at Staff Care?

The biggest thing I would say is the relationships – both internal and external. There are a lot of individuals at Staff Care who have become close friends over the many years that I’ve worked here. Externally, many of the physicians that I work with have become like family at this point. I have been working with some of them for over 10 years! Some of them I even consider to be my “honorary parents.” So just getting to develop and build relationships with the people around me really drives me to work my best each day at work.

If you could have any job in the world, other than working at Staff Care, what would it be? Why?

I would be a chef and open my own restaurant. Cooking has always been a passion of mine when I’m not working. I’m definitely the chef of my family, and love trying new recipes weekly. I love how cooking allows me to be creative and I enjoy the benefit of trying new things.

What is one of your favorite work-related memories?

Probably when we started the radiology division. When I first started at Staff Care, the radiology and anesthesia teams were together, known as the hospital-based team. In about a year into my career they decided to split off radiology into its own division in January 2005. As a charter member of this group, it has been very exciting to look back on being one of the original members of this team and to see how it was grown, and changed. At one point, radiology was the largest division at Staff Care. It is now the smallest team, so seeing the different changes that have occurred over the years has been a great experience.

What's the one thing in your life you can't live without?

I would say my wife! I feel like we definitely balance each other out well in life. She’s more of the nurturing type, and I am more of a disciplinary type, which helps when raising our children. So that would be the one thing for me that would certainly be difficult for me to live without daily!

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

I would say competitive. Pretty much anything in life for me is a competition, just ask my wife. Whether it’s the hobbies that I enjoy outside of work, or the little things at work, I’m always fairly competitive and want to do my best.
