MACRA - A New Medicare Reimbursement Method for Physicians
In the spring of 2015, a major adjustment to Medicare's reimbursement rules was passed into law. Since then, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, a.k.a. MACRA, has been in the process of a stage-by-stage rollout, with some of its preliminary options already in play.
"Under the new model, Medicare payments will increase by 0.5% a year from July 2015 to December 2018," write the authors of our new MACRA white paper. "In January 2019, a new replacement Medicare formula will reimburse physicians under one of two methods (though 2017 is the first year for which many physicians will be bonused or penalized under these methods).
