Sales Spotlight: Landon Owens

Landon Owens is a sales team member that other Staff Care employees and partners can both respect and admire. His positive attitude coupled with his steady determination contributes to his success as one of the top sales team members in the company. Throughout his career at Staff Care, Landon has become an individual upon whom our partners can depend and place their trust.

Growing up in Commerce, Texas, Landon was eager to jump into the healthcare industry after graduating college and has certainly found his niche. Having experience with staffing prior to joining the Staff Care team, Landon has developed an expertise in this industry and relishes the opportunity to speak with anyone he can.

In his downtime, Landon enjoys spending time with his fiancée, Maggie and English bulldog, Chump, at his home in North Dallas.

What’s your story? Where did you grow up and go to school?

I grew up in the small town of Commerce, Texas, about an hour and a half north east of Dallas. I graduated from high school and college there. Shortly out of college, in 2004, I began my career in recruitment.

When I started at Staff Care, I had five years of industry experience doing recruiting, business development and account management in retained permanent placement and contract staffing. Even though I had industry experience, my first six months was very challenging and humbling.

Having said that, the struggles helped me cut my teeth in the locums business and I wouldn't be where I am today without those difficult early days. I learned that no matter the hand you are dealt, whether it’s the economy or your role, you can be successful if work hard, stay positive and buy into what you are trying to accomplish.

What do you like to do for fun? Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

I really enjoy football — the Cowboys and the Longhorns are my two favorite teams. I’m kind of a nerd when it comes to college football recruiting and it’s really borderline an obsession. But I also like to binge watch TV shows, workout and hang out with my fiancée, Maggie and my bulldog, Chump.

How long have you been working with Staff Care?

Since June 1, 2009; so about five and a half years.

What initially attracted you to the healthcare industry?

In the beginning, the opportunity to earn six figures in my early 20s and feed my entrepreneurial spirit was why I started in healthcare. Looking back, it wasn’t as easy as it sounded because the process was brutal at times but I found out that I could be successful if I hustled every day and learned as much as possible.

Before I started in staffing, my first job after earning my degree was doing outside sales for a respiratory care durable medical equipment company. I quickly figured out that it wasn’t for me because I wasn’t interacting with people very often. I’m a people person, and I was spending a lot of time in my car or in a doctor’s office waiting room. After six months, a friend of mine referred me to a contact that was in healthcare staffing — and the rest is history.

What do you enjoy most about working at Staff Care?

The people — the people I work with each day, whether it’s my teammates, clients or providers enrichment in my life daily. I believe the relationships I have built over the years have been valuable personally and professionally. Each day I learn something new and adapt to different situations.

If you could have any job in the world, other than working at Staff Care, what would it be? Why?

There are three that I always say:

  1. Jerry Jones’ job; General manager and owner of the Dallas Cowboys!
  2. If I couldn't do that, I would be the head coach of the Texas Longhorns college football team.
  3. The President of the United States.

What's one of your favorite work-related memories?

Right when I first started we had this team party at Top Golf and everyone ended up having a great time and sang a bunch of karaoke, which was really fun. I also really enjoyed my trip to Cancun last year when we got to go for the President’s Cup.

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

Happy. I feel like I’m a really luckiest guy in the world and I am blessed in so many ways. I've got great friends, a great job and a great family — I’ve got no complaints!
