Locum tenens staffing by hospitals, healthcare facilities and other health employers nationwide has seen tremendous change over the past decade, as this video conversation with Staff Care President Sean Ebner illustrates.
Traditionally, locum tenens staffing has been used as a "stand-in for physicians for vacation coverage [and] those types of things," Mr. Ebner explains, "when there were gaps in the delivery of healthcare."
In recent years, though, the use of locum tenens professionals has become "much more strategic," he says. "I see that hospitals and healthcare provider systems are using locum tenens as a more strategic approach to managing the peaks and valleys of demand for service.
"So looking at it proactively and bringing in doctors that have the right skill set at the right time, has really become something that is really changing the marketplace and really allowing healthcare systems to deliver superior care with a much more flexible model."
